Hazaribag, Mar 26 (PTI) A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the murder of a girl in Jharkhand’s Hazaribag district, police said on Thursday.

Bishnugarh Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) B N Prasad told PTI on Thursday that taking serious note of the incident in which the body of a 13-year-old girl was recovered on Wednesday, the Hazaribag Superintendent of Police (SP) Anjani Anjan constituted an SIT.

“The girl was part of a religious procession taken out in her village on Tuesday night. On Wednesday, her body was recovered at a distance from the village. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. The autopsy report could throw light on whether the girl was sexually assaulted,” said Prasad, who heads the SIT.

However, the police officer said that a stick was found inserted in her private part.

“An FIR has been lodged by the victim’s mother against unidentified persons alleging rape. We will soon nab the culprits,” the officer said.

The police officer said that the forensic team and dog squad have also visited the site where the body was recovered to assist in the investigation.

Meanwhile, opposition BJP state president and Rajya Sabha MP Aditya Sahu criticised the state government, alleging deteriorating law and order over the alleged rape and murder of the minor girl.

The BJP leader announced that he would meet the victim girl’s family at Hazaribag on Friday.

“This crime is a glaring example of the failure of law and order, as well as the insensitivity of the government,” Sahu said. PTI CORR ANB RG
