Gangtok, Apr 13 (PTI) Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Monday extended his support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on women’s reservation and said a nation’s true progress is rooted in the empowerment of its women.

He hailed Modi for the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam (Women’s Reservation Act), for empowering women across the nation.

“On behalf of the government and the people of Sikkim, I convey our wholehearted support, deep appreciation, and sincere gratitude to the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji for spearheading the historic Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, a transformative initiative of the 21st century dedicated to empowering women across the nation,” he said in a Facebook post.

Tamang said that the special discussion in Parliament commencing from April 16 next marks a defining milestone in India’s democratic journey.

“It reflects our collective resolve to strengthen inclusive governance and to move forward in unity, ensuring equitable representation and meaningful participation for all sections of society,” the Sikkim CM said.

A nation’s true progress is rooted in the empowerment of its women, Tamang said, adding that India is proudly witnessing its daughters excelling across various fields, such as science, innovation, sports, governance, and entrepreneurship, demonstrating exceptional capability, resilience, and leadership.

The presentation and unanimous support for the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam stands as a historic achievement, symbolising rare consensus and a strong national commitment towards enhancing women’s representation in legislative bodies, he said.

It reaffirms our shared vision of securing rightful space and voice for women within the democratic framework and marks a decisive step towards building a more inclusive, equitable, and progressive India, Tamang said. PTI KDK RG
