Jaipur, Apr 8 (PTI) The Shia community in Jaipur on Wednesday celebrated the announcement of a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, describing it as a “major victory.” Gathered in various parts of the city, community members congratulated each other and marked the occasion by exchanging greetings and sweets.
They said Eid-related celebrations had been subdued due to the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed on February 28 in a joint US-Israel strike in Tehran.
However, following the ceasefire announcement, people resumed celebrations, greeted one another and marked the festival.
Some participants were seen holding photographs of Khamenei and raising slogans in support of Iran, while markets in the city also witnessed increased activity, with women participating in shopping.
A local, Nadir Naqvi, said the development was a “victory for humanity” and celebrations would continue late into the night, while another resident, Akram Hussain, said the development was being viewed as a significant moment, with Iran conveying a strong message through the conflict.
