Hamirpur (HP), Apr 6 (PTI) A team from Hamirpur Sadar Police raided a hotel on the Shimla-Mataur National Highway in Hamirpur district, busting a sex racket and rescuing three women from Punjab, officials said.
Police had been receiving reports of suspicious activities at the hotel for a long time and the place was being monitored. On Sunday, police conducted a raid at the hotel in the Tiale Da Ghat area and booked two hotel operators.
Three women from Amritsar in Punjab were rescued and taken into custody, police said on Monday.
It is said that similar cases have occurred here before, which prompted police to tighten surveillance.
After receiving concrete information, the team conducted a planned raid at the hotel and a case has been registered against hotel operators, Prithi Chand and Kashmir Singh, and investigations are underway, police said.
Preliminary interrogation suggested the women’s involvement in sexual activities. After they were taken into custody, medical examinations were conducted and their statements were recorded before the sub-divisional magistrate, Hamirpur, they said.
The women were then placed at Hamirpur’s One Stop Centre — which provides temporary shelter and legal and medical aid to women in distress. The facility will ensure their safety and they will be given necessary counselling, they said.
According to police, the hotel has been part of a sex racket for a long time and the entire matter is being thoroughly investigated.
Police said that other individuals involved in this network are being identified and the campaign will continue to completely curb this illegal business in the area. PTI COR BPL SKY SKY
