Second Panchayat Sammelan to be held in Agra

The event organised by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj aims to bolster grassroots governance, and service delivery in rural areas.

New Delhi: The Ministry of Panchayati Raj will host its second Panchayat Sammelan on 19 November at the Taj Hotel & Convention Centre in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. This is the second in a series of four, with the first held in Hyderabad. The event aims to bolster grassroots governance and service delivery in rural areas nationwide, a PIB release stated.

Minister of State, Ministry of Panchayati Raj & Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying SP Singh Baghel will chair the event. It will also be attended by Shri Om Prakash Rajbhar, Minister of Panchayati Raj, Uttar Pradesh, Shri Vivek Bharadwaj, Secretary, Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Shri Narendra Bhooshan, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Panchayati Raj, Government of Uttar Pradesh, and Shri Alok Prem Nagar, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Panchayati Raj, the release added.

The Sammelan will bring together delegates from eight states: Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Nagaland, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. These delegates, representing diverse geographic regions and governance experiences, will discuss ways to improve last-mile service accessibility and establish quality benchmarks for rural governance. The delegates include panchayat functionaries and elected representatives, who play a vital role in delivering services at the grassroots level. The workshop will focus on strengthening last-mile service accessibility and sharing knowledge between states. The event will focus on “Ease of Living: Enhancing Service Delivery at Grassroots.”

The event will focus on developing effective strategies to enhance service accessibility in rural areas, with a particular emphasis on benchmarking and improving service delivery quality. This initiative is a key step in strengthening grassroots governance and service delivery in rural areas nationwide, the press release read.
