Chennai, Mar 15 (PTI) Seat-sharing talks in the NDA in Tamil Nadu for the April 23 Assembly polls will happen soon, AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami, whose party leads the bloc, said here on Sunday.
Still there are 15 days left for the filing of nominations as per the schedule given by the Election Commission, he said after taking part in an Iftar function.
Talking to reporters here, he said, “Seat-sharing talks for the AIADMK led NDA will be conducted soon. After they are completed, we will invite the media and inform.” “Still there are 15 days left right? When do nominations start? As per the EC schedule March 30 filing of nominations begin. (So), We have time. The seat-sharing discussions will be settled in a manner where the candidates we nominate will emerge victorious,” he added.
NDA constituents in Tamil Nadu include the AIADMK, BJP, AMMK and PMK.
Responding to a query about Chief Minister M K Stalin’s comments that the minorities are being targeted in BJP-ruled states, Palaniswami said, “He used to make such remarks only during the election season. What has this DMK government done for the welfare of the minorities.” The Leader of the Opposition recalled various welfare schemes for the minority communities were implemented during the AIADMK rule.
AIADMK government stood as a protection for the minorities. “But today, there is no safety for the people of Tamil Nadu as a whole”, he claimed.
Earlier in his address at the function, Palaniswami said, “History will tell that the rule of AIADMK founder and late Chief Minister M G Ramachandran and that of J Jayalalithaa and the regime under my leadership following the path laid by them were the golden age for the minorities.” During the AIADMK regime, his government implemented numerous welfare schemes for Islamic brethren, Palaniswami said.
“The AIADMK government allocated funds without any hindrance for taking up Hajj pilgrimage,” he recalled.
With elections round the corner, Palaniswami said Tamil Nadu is eagerly waiting for the party’s rule and people are ready to give a magnificent victory to the AIADMK led National Democratic Alliance. PTI VIJ VIJ SA
