Mathura (UP), Mar 15 (PTI) A sadhu was critically injured after being attacked with a knife at a temple in Barsana area here on Sunday, police said.
The unidentified assailants allegedly tried to slit the victim’s throat while he was cooking on the temple premises.
The incident took place at the Shri Radhavallabh temple in Sahar village under the Barsana police station limits.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Suresh Chandra Rawat said the injured Sadhu has been identified as Mohan Das alias Goonga Baba (48).
According to the police, some unidentified persons entered the temple premises Sunday forenoon and attacked the sadhu with a knife while he was cooking food.
The attackers repeatedly struck him on the neck, leaving him seriously injured.
After the assault, the assailants fled the spot leaving the sadhu in a critical condition. The injured sadhu was rushed to a hospital. His condition was stated to be critical, the police said.
Following the incident, a police team inspected the spot and initiated a probe to be establish the motive and the number of people involved in the attack.
