Naya Gaon (Mohali), Apr 9 (PTI) Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday expressed confidence that people have made up their mind to bring his party to power in 2027 in Punjab, citing “immense public support”.
Badal further claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party would not win even a single seat out of the total 117 assembly constituencies. He also took a swipe at the Congress over the alleged issue of infighting among its leaders.
Punjab assembly polls are due early next year.
“The kind of enthusiasm I am seeing and how people are associating with us in a big way… all Punjabis have made up their mind that if the state is to be saved, then (they must) bring the Akali Dal, the regional party, to power,” Badal said, while speaking to reporters here.
“A wave has started (in favour of Akali Dal). I urge people of Punjab to bless us and we will turn the state into a new Punjab,” Badal said.
He said Punjabis were bestowing trust in the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) with its ‘Punjab Bachao’ rallies getting massive response.
“The party is headed to win 100 seats in the forthcoming assembly elections and form the next government,” he added.
Earlier, Naya Gaon Nagar Council president Balwinder Kaur, along with four BJP councillors, joined the Shiromani Akali Dal, Badal said.
Other senior leaders who joined the party included Gurdhyan Singh, who is the husband of Council President Balwinder Kaur as well as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) member Jaspreet Singh Sandhu and Congress councillor Rinku.
“The BJP leaders took a decision to join the SAD as the party alone has done development of Naya Gaon when in power,” Badal said in a statement, adding that he was committed to the development of the town.
“The work of our erstwhile government speaks for itself. We created New Chandigarh and put Mohali on the world map by establishing an international airport in the city,” Badal added. PTI CHS PRK
