New Delhi: Actor Rishi Kapoor’s daughter Riddhima Kapoor Sahni has been granted permission to travel 1,400 km by road to Mumbai from New Delhi to attend his funeral Thursday amid the nationwide coronavirus lockdown.

Delhi Police confirmed to ThePrint that movement passes have been issued to the family this morning.

Kapoor died in a Mumbai hospital Thursday morning. The 67-year-old veteran actor was not keeping well and was admitted to HN Reliance hospital Wednesday morning. Kapoor had been suffering from cancer.

Will travel to Mumbai in a group of five

Riddhima is married to industrialist Bharat Sahni and stays in the national capital. She had sought permission from the Central government Wednesday night to fly to Mumbai by a chartered flight.

However, sources in Riddhima’s extended family said she was told that permission to fly could only be given by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Riddhima and her husband then asked Delhi Police to allow them to travel to Mumbai by road.

“We issued the movement passes to five people, including the actor’s daughter Riddhima, at about 10.30 am this (Thursday) morning so that they can travel by road as we understand it is an emergency situation,” DCP (south east) R.P. Meena told ThePrint.

The Central government Wednesday allowed movement of migrants, students, pilgrims and tourists, who do not have symptoms of coronavirus, to return to their home states.

However, flights, trains and other transport services continue to remain suspended.
