Jaipur, Apr 1 (PTI) The Rajasthan Police has launched the second phase of its anti-drug campaign “Anti-venom”, focusing on preventing youth from falling into substance abuse by involving religious leaders and community influencers, an official said on Wednesday.

Religious preachers and Katha vachak will be roped in to motivate youngsters to refrain from drugs through their sermons and outreach activities.

“The second phase began on Wednesday, and we are personally reaching out to religious leaders so that they can spread awareness against drug abuse along with their teachings,” Inspector General of Police, Jaipur Range, Rahul Prakash said.

Prakash added that educational institutions, coaching centres, hostels and PG operators will also be involved in the campaign, with instructions issued to district superintendents of police to coordinate with them and set up de-addiction centres.

He said the initiative will begin with Sikar district, an education hub, where institutions will be encouraged to establish such centres.

Highlighting the impact of the first phase conducted from March 15 to 31, the officer said police across Jaipur Range districts registered 229 cases under the NDPS Act and arrested around 235 accused, recovering narcotics worth nearly Rs 2 crore.

He added that data gathered during the first phase will now be used to identify and crack down on drug suppliers, including attachment and seizure of properties acquired through illegal activities.

Police had also identified drug-addicted youth in the initial phase and asked their families to admit them to de-addiction centres, warning of legal action in case of non-compliance, he said. PTI AG NB NB
