Jaipur, Apr 13 (PTI) The Rajasthan government has drawn up a comprehensive plan to strengthen and modernise traffic management in Jaipur city, following directives from Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma.

The plan aims to improve traffic flow through administrative restructuring, infrastructure upgrades and use of technology, following a detailed study of traffic systems in major metropolitan cities, according to a release.

As part of the restructuring, the number of additional deputy commissioners of police (traffic) will be increased from two to four. One officer will be assigned to each police district to expedite decision-making and improve oversight.

Similarly, the number of assistant commissioners of police (traffic) will be doubled from four to eight, with two officers in each district to enhance monitoring, enforcement and coordination.

The number of traffic inspectors will also be increased from 15 to 20 to strengthen local-level accountability.

The city will be divided into 72 traffic beats to ensure clear responsibility and better management, particularly during peak hours. Personnel deployment will be rationalised and strengthened for quicker response.

To improve mobility in congested areas, 20 specially designed modified motorcycles will be provided to traffic inspectors to enable faster movement and action.

The plan includes expanding surveillance infrastructure with additional CCTV cameras linked to the Abhay Command Centre for real-time monitoring. Drones will be utilised to assess traffic congestion, while elements of the Intelligent Traffic Management System will be implemented in phases.

In the initial phase, Tonk Road from Yadgar to Sanganer will be developed as a model traffic corridor. This project will involve improvements in road design, closure of unsafe median openings, construction of continuous footpaths for pedestrians, and scientific redesign of U-turns and crossing points.

Encroachment removal, better parking management, and deployment of additional cranes to tackle illegal parking are also part of the plan. Authorities will clearly notify parking and no-parking zones and develop parking facilities at suitable locations.

Traffic signal timings will be adjusted dynamically based on real-time traffic conditions. Proper lane marking, zebra crossings, stop lines, and effective junction improvements will also be implemented.

A performance-based evaluation system will be introduced for officers to ensure accountability, along with continuous monitoring and periodic review of the reforms. PTI SDA MPL MPL
