Jaipur, Mar 20 (PTI) Residents of Rajasthan’s Balotra travelled over 500 kilometres to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s residence here on Monday and expressed their gratitude for declaring it a new district, according to an official release.

In a significant announcement in the election year, Gehlot announced the formation of 19 new districts and three new divisions in the state on March 17. Balotra (Barmer) will be one of the new districts.

This is the first time since 2008 that new districts have been carved out in Rajasthan, taking the total number of districts in the state to 50.

“With the creation of new districts, there will be time-bound progress in all sectors including education, health and employment. Along with this, farmers, youths, students and other sections will get quick benefits of the schemes,” the release quoted Gehlot as saying on Monday.

He said the state government is committed to the overall development of Balotra.

Now, residents of Balotra will not have to travel long distances to visit government offices for work.

Artistes from Balotra performed ‘Gair’, a folk dance, at the chief minister’s residence on the occasion, the release said.

Congress MLA from Pachpadra in Barmer Madan Prajapat and other public representatives were also present on the occasion. PTI SDA DIV DIV
