Rain in parts of Punjab, Haryana brings down day temperatures

Chandigarh, Apr 7 (PTI) Rain lashed parts of Punjab and Haryana on Tuesday, with day temperatures registering a sharp drop in many places including Amritsar, which recorded a maximum of 21.7 degrees Celsius.

Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states, received light showers during the day. It recorded a maximum temperature of 27.6 degrees Celsius, over five notches below normal limits, the meteorological department said.

Ambala, Panchkula, Narnaul, Rohtak in Haryana and Amritsar, Rupnagar, Mohali, Patiala, Pathankot and Ludhiana in Punjab were among the other places that received rain.

In Punjab, Amritsar registered a sharp drop in the day temperature, recording a high of 21.7 degrees Celsius, 10 degrees below normal, according to the weather office.

Ludhiana recorded a high of 24.2 degrees Celsius, nine notches below normal while Patiala recorded a high of 26.1 degrees, seven degrees lower than normal.

Pathankot recorded a high of 23.5 degrees Celsius, while Hoshiarpur recorded a maximum of 23.9 degrees Celsius.

Mercury settled at 25.4 degrees Celsius in Haryana’s Hisar — 10 notches below normal — while Ambala recorded a high of 26.8 degrees Celsius, seven degrees below normal.

Narnaul and Rohtak registered maximum temperatures of 24.5 degrees Celsius and 22.8 degrees Celsius, down by 12 and 13 notches against normal respectively.

Karnal recorded a high of 25.5 degrees Celsius, staying more than eight degrees below the normal limit.

Opposition leaders in Punjab and Haryana have sought compensation for farmers’ crops damaged in intermittent spells of rain at various places in the two states during the past few days. PTI SUN PRK
