Puducherry, Mar 13 (PTI) Puducherry Chief Minister and AINRC founder N Rangasamy on Friday held discussions with Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, who is the election in charge of the BJP in the union territory, on the forthcoming election-related matters.

A source in the BJP, which is an ally in the AINRC headed coalition ministry here, told PTI that the CM briefed the union minister on the stand of the AINRC in respect of seats and other matters.

The chief minister also apprised the union minister that the AINRC would contest 16 out of the total 30 Assembly seats here, leaving the remaining 14 to the BJP and the other constituents of the NDA, the source said.

The AINRC contested 16 seats in the last election to the Assembly held in 2021 and emerged victorious in ten seats and hence it intends to contest in the same number of constituencies in the forthcoming poll.

The BJP contested nine seats in the last poll and won six segments, while the AIADMK contested the remaining five seats, but drew a blank.

The AINRC and BJP together formed a coalition ministry.

Puducherry PWD Minister K Lakshminarayanan (AINRC) and the BJP’s party in charge in Puducherry, Nirmal Kumar Surana, were also present during the chief minister’s meeting with the union minister.

The AIADMK is another constituent of the AINRC-led NDA in the union territory.

The chief minister later told reporters that the “talks with the union minister were smooth and cordial”. PTI COR KH
