PSA Holds Brainstorming Session on Mission for Science & Technology in Sustainable Livelihood System

New Delhi: The Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) held a brainstorming session and first meeting of nodal officers today at Vigyan Bhawan Annexe in New Delhi to discuss the upcoming Mission on Science & Technology for Sustainable Livelihood System. The mission aims to utilize scientific and technological advancements to improve livelihoods and promote sustainable development across communities, a PIB press release stated.

Chaired by Dr. (Mrs.) Parvinder Maini, Scientific Secretary of the O/o PSA, the meeting saw participation from key government officials representing various ministries and departments. These included the Department of Science & Technology, Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The 22nd PM-STIAC meeting on January 19, 2023, recommended a mission to strengthen technology delivery to improve quality of life. Dr. Maini emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration and program convergence to create scalable and inclusive livelihood models.

The meeting focused on defining the roles and responsibilities of each participating ministry/department in the mission’s various components and formulating a strategy for selecting pilot sites for implementation. Nodal officers from various ministries shared their insights on their ongoing flagship schemes at the district and village levels, exploring potential convergence points with the national mission.
