New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu expressed her confidence in the ability of the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) in ensuring the efficiency and integrity of public funds, a PIB press release stated.
The President made these remarks during the opening ceremony of the 16th Asian Organisation of Supreme Audit Institution (ASOSAI) Assembly, which was held in New Delhi on 24 September.
In her speech, the President highlighted the importance of the CAG of India in ensuring transparency and accountability in the country’s public finance. She noted that the office of the CAG has played a key role in safeguarding public funds and enhancing public confidence in governance. The President further said that the mandate of public sector audits has expanded beyond traditional auditing to include assessing the effectiveness of public welfare schemes and projects. She emphasised the need for the audit function to keep up with technological evolution in order to ensure effective oversight.
The President also expressed concern over the growing gap in access to digital technologies for women and vulnerable sections of the society. She highlighted the need of Supreme Audit Institutions to ensure that digital public infrastructure is designed and implemented in a way that is inclusive and accessible to all.
