New Delhi, Mar 7 (PTI) Publishing house Westland Books, in association with storytelling platform Pratilipi, has announced the launch of its new language imprint, ‘Pratilipi Paperbacks’.

The new imprint, scheduled to release five titles in Hindi, Bengali and Tamil in March, aims to give readers “quick, riveting reads in the fiction segment”.

Westland Books is now a part of Nasadiya Technologies/Pratilipi, touted to be India’s largest digital publishing app that has over nine lakh writers in 12 Indian languages.

According to the publishers, the top-performing novels from the app will be published under the new imprint.

“This imprint is all about racy stories — whodunnits, spy thrillers, tales of hauntings, romance — with blood and gore, cliff hangers, hair-raising screams, meet-cutes, heartbreaks, high-voltage family drama and laughs. Page-turners at tempting price points.

“We’ve picked out stories that we got hooked on. The first bunch of books are in Hindi, Tamil and Bengali. These books will go into the biggest and the smallest of stores across states,” said Minakshi Thakur, publisher (Indian Literature division) at Westland Books.

The first five titles, releasing next week, include two Hindi novels “Night Club” and “Qaidi” by crime fiction and web series writer Amit Khan; the first volume in the ‘Tantric Aghoranand’ series “Amas” by Anil Shekhar; Bangla novel “Drakhni” by Rima Goswami Das; and “Nilavakkum Nilapendre Per” by the master of Tamil crime writing Rajesh Kumar — author of over a 1,000 novels and novellas.

“We want our authors to be able to leverage all the possible avenues available to them at Pratilipi, be it an e-book, audio book, comics or motion comics. Westland Books has made an exciting new addition to this: Pratilipi Paperbacks, a trade publishing imprint focused on the most loved stories from Pratilipi and also on iconic writers writing in popular genres such as crime, horror, romance and family drama,” said Ranjeet Pratap Singh, CEO and Founder of Pratilipi.

The books scheduled for April and May, include two more thrillers by Amit Khan, a two-part murder mystery by Rajesh Kumar, and a Hindi novel about black magic called “Bade Gharane Ki Bahu” by Astha Jain.

The publishing house will be releasing books in Marathi, Malayalam and other languages between June and December 2023. PTI MG MAH MAH
