PM Modi must condemn attack on Iran: Owaisi

Hyderabad, Mar 13 (PTI) AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should condemn the attack on Iran by the US and Israel.

He also accused Modi of not following India’s neutral policy on the Israel-Palestine issue.

Addressing a gathering at the historic Makkah Masjid here, he took a jibe at Modi, saying he suddenly remembered his “56 inch chest” on Thursday and spoke to the Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian over phone as the issue of gas and petrol was at stake.

Iran’s late supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, was leader of Shias, he said.

“Why Bharat is doing like this? You (Modi) should condemn the attack on Iran. You should condemn what happened in Doha, Dubai, Bahrain, Kuwait. Why did you sit with Trump and Netanyahu? Is this our foreign policy? We have been neutral since 80 years. Bharat always stood in support of Palestinians,” he said.

Not yesterday, but Modi should have stated 10 days ago by making a phone call that an attack cannot take place on another country. Attacking another country is against international law, he said.

Owaisi recalled that he favoured India carrying out attacks in Pakistan post Pahalgam terror attack.

He hit out at US president Donald Trump and Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for attacking Iran though they were holding talks.

He alleged a conspiracy to divide the followers of Islam.

Why did Modi go to Israel two days before the attacks on Iran started? Modi went there as Netanyahu was isolated internationally, he claimed.

He further claimed that it was a matter of insult as Modi was given an award which does not exist in Israel’s parliament.

Talking about the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), Owaisi said, “Hindu law cannot be imposed on Muslims in the name of UCC”.

He also expressed serious concern over alleged incidents of hatred and violence against Muslims in various parts of the country.

He also alleged that in Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency represented by PM Modi, houses belonging to Muslims were demolished.

He condemned the attack on National Conference president and former chief minister Farooq Abdullah in Jammu, stating that any act of intimidation or attack against political leaders must be strongly condemned in a democratic society. PTI SJR SJR KH
