PM Modi directs officials to ensure preparedness for upcoming heat wave season

During a meeting to review preparedness for the ensuing heat wave season, the Prime Minister was briefed about the temperature outlook for the period from April to June, 2024.

New Delhi: As the country braces for the upcoming heat wave season, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed officials to ensure preparedness in all sectors, including health, a PIB press release stated.

During a meeting to review preparedness for the ensuing heat wave season, the Prime Minister was briefed about the temperature outlook for the period from April to June, 2024, including the forecasts for the upcoming hot weather season (April to June), the likelihood of above normal maximum temperatures over most parts of the country, especially with high probability over Central India and western peninsular India. In view of the likely heat wave in the country this year, which coincides with the General Elections, the Prime Minister directed the officials to ensure the timely dissemination of essential IEC / awareness material in regional languages through all platforms, including television, radio, and social media.

He also stressed the need for quick detection and forest firefighting. The Prime Minister assured that all arms of the Government, at the Central, State, and District levels, as well as various Ministries, will work together in coordination to ensure a smooth and efficient response to any eventuality during the heat wave season.

The meeting also discussed the importance of awareness creation and adequate preparation in hospitals, including the availability of essential medicines, intravenous fluids, ice packs, ORS, and drinking water.
