Kannur/Malappuram (Kerala), Apr 6 (PTI) Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has “compromised” India’s interests and “failed” to address concerns arising out of the ongoing West Asia crisis, leaving lakhs of Indians without adequate safety measures.

Addressing various corner meetings in these northern districts as part of the campaign for the April 9 Assembly polls, she claimed that the Centre lacked any concrete plan to ensure the safety and security of Indians affected by the conflict, including many from Kerala.

“When there is a crisis like the one in the Middle East, our governments do nothing to protect our people. They don’t provide any safety, any security or any plan to bring our people back,” the Wayanad MP alleged.

Vadra said the situation could worsen in the coming days as the conflict escalates and accused both the Centre and the state government of “failing” to respond effectively.

“At the Centre, we have a government which shows no compassion to the people of the country, and in the state also there is a government which is less compassionate to its people,” she alleged, also targeting Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Taking a swipe at the Prime Minister’s foreign policy, she said, “Modiji is too busy bowing to the US and Israel,” and alleged that India was no longer standing up for its own people globally.

“We have a Prime Minister who goes running to Israel two days before the (West Asia) war and received medals from them in his names,” she alleged.

Accusing Modi of being “so hungry for power”, she alleged that the PM was so “deeply compromised” to save himself from being in the Epstein files.

“We have been led by cowards who will do anything for power, do anything to protect themselves,” she said.

Vadra further alleged that the Prime Minister “does not have the guts to speak” when thousands of children had been killed in Palestine.

The Congress leader also targeted the Centre’s economic and trade policies, alleging that the government had effectively handed over the country’s energy sector to the United States.

“Today, the US decides where we should buy our oil, who should buy it and how we should buy it,” she claimed.

According to her, the agreements entered into by the Centre would hurt Indian farmers by forcing them to compete with large, mechanised American farms.

“They have imposed tariffs on us and we have removed taxes for them. We are going to buy goods worth Rs nine lakh crore from America,” she said, adding that such policies would aggravate the country’s problems.

Vadra also alleged that “communal politics and corruption” were weakening the country and said India was being led by “compromising leaders”.

“As an Indian, I feel sad that we are actually being led by leaders who are cowards,” she said, adding that it was time for people to “wake up” and demand accountability.

“This is not what should be in a democracy. It is our right to question and demand that the government provides safety and security,” she alleged.

Her remarks came two days after Modi accused the Congress of making “provocative” statements aimed at straining India’s relations with West Asian nations for political gains.

Addressing an NDA rally in Thiruvalla, the Prime Minister had said that elections would come and go, but the safety of Indians, especially those from Kerala in the Middle East, was his top priority and he would ensure it. PTI LGK ROH
