Kotdwar (Uttarakhand), Apr 11 (PTI) A Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) was inaugurated here on Saturday.
The centre, which is operated jointly by the Ministry of External Affairs and India Post, was inaugurated here in the tehsil complex by Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita, Garhwal MP Anil Baluni and Uttarakhand Assembly Speaker Ritu Khanduri Bhushan.
On this occasion, passports were also issued to 12 individuals, which were handed over to them by the minister of state for external affairs.
Speaking on the occasion, Margherita said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry of External Affairs is making continuous efforts to make passport services available to citizens at locations closest to their homes.
Margherita said that 453 POPSKs and 93 Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) are operational across the country.
MP Baluni said that the residents of Kotdwar and the surrounding areas will no longer have to travel long distances after the inauguration of the centre.
He further added that under prime minister’s leadership, India’s foreign policy has become significantly stronger. He said that the government has successfully rescued over 250 Indians, including residents of Uttarakhand, who were stranded abroad for various reasons. PTI COR DPT MNK MNK MNK
