Kolkata, Apr 1 (PTI) Over 40 people were injured after a bus collided with a truck in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district on Wednesday, police said.

The accident took place near Pomia in Nabagram along National Highway 12 when the people were returning from a public meeting addressed by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Bholadanga ground.

Ambulances from the nearby Shibpur toll plaza rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to Palsonda Primary Health Centre, where they were given first aid.

“Four persons with serious injuries have been referred to Berhampore Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment,” a health department official said.

Police said the condition of some of the injured was critical, and an investigation has been initiated into the cause of the accident.

“A case has been registered, and we are looking into whether speeding or negligence led to the collision,” a senior police officer said. PTI SCH MNB
