Shimla, Mar 25 (PTI) As many as 27,000 social security pensions are pending approval in Himachal Pradesh, Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Dhani Ram Shandil said in a written reply in the assembly on Wednesday.

He was replying to a question raised by BJP MLAs Vinod Kumar and Jeet Ram Katwal.

Shandil informed the House that social security pensions are currently being provided to 8,06,846 individuals, including 3,50,002 beneficiaries aged 70 years and above.

Among the pending cases, he said that 19,824 cases pertain to old-age pensions, 4,291 cases are related to pensions for widows, abandoned and single women, and 2,202 cases are linked to relief allowances for the differently abled.

The pending cases would be resolved in a phased manner, he said.

The minister stated that there is no plan to deliver pensions to beneficiaries on a door-to-door basis, and instead they are being disbursed through direct benefit transfer. PTI BPL RUK RUK
