Panaji, April 8 (PTI) Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will inaugurate the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region West Zone conference in Goa on April 9, where governance and development priorities will be discussed, an official said on Wednesday.

A senior official from the Goa legislative assembly said Birla will inaugurate the event at 10.40 am on Thursday and address it at 12.10 pm.

The official said that the conference, which will be held in a hotel in Panaji, is expected to bring together senior parliamentary leaders from across western India for discussions on key governance and development priorities.

Birla is scheduled to arrive in the coastal state on Wednesday.

The conference aims to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation and promote meaningful dialogue on regional and national issues. It will also serve as a platform for exchange of legislative best practices and collaborative approaches to contemporary challenges in governance, the official said.

According to the official, it will feature two plenary sessions — ‘The Role of Young Legislators in achieving the goals of a developed India by 2047’ on April 9 and ‘Priorities of Zone-VII in Trade, Tourism, Urbanisation, Environment and Coastal Connectivity’ on April 10.

The official said that these sessions will focus on fostering constructive dialogue on development priorities, legislative innovation, and regional cooperation among participating states.

The event will witness participation of several dignitaries, including Goa Governor Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Harivansh Narayan Singh, assembly speakers of Gujarat and Maharashtra and the chairperson of Maharashtra legislative council, he added.
