Shillong, Apr 4 (PTI) National People’s Party (NPP) chief and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma will campaign for party candidate Ganseng B. Sangma in Assam’s Boko-Chaygaon constituency on Monday, party leaders said.
Preparations are underway at Santi-Nijora Club, where senior leaders, including MLA Pongseng R. Marak and NPP vice-president I. Hemochandra Singh, reviewed arrangements.
“The rally is expected to draw leaders and workers from across the region as we look to strengthen our presence in Assam,” a party leader said on Saturday.
Leaders expressed confidence over growing support, claiming that “there has been a steady rise in new members joining the party, including from the BJP and the Congress”.
Marak said the NPP, founded in 2012, has expanded rapidly across the Northeast and voiced hope that “Assam can this time elect its representatives from the NPP”.
Rejecting allegations of aligning with the BJP, the party asserted that “the NPP remains an independent political force and presents itself as an alternative in the elections”. PTI JOP MNB
