An FIR has been lodged against the woman, a lawyer by profession. RWA member says argument was caused by a 'delay of few seconds' in opening a gate by the guard.

New Delhi: After the video of a woman abusing and physically assaulting the security guards of a housing society in Noida went viral, the woman in the clip has been arrested by the Noida Police Sunday. The incident took place on Saturday evening in Jaypee Greens Wish Town in Noida.

An FIR has been lodged at the Sector 126 Police Station under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), among others.

“An FIR has been lodged in the matter and legal action has been initiated in the case. She has been arrested,” Harish Chander, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Noida, told ThePrint.

According to the members of the Resident Welfare Association (RWA) ThePrint spoke to, the woman arrested, Bhavya Roy, is a lawyer by profession and has been living in Pavilion Court, within Wish Town, since May 2022.

In the video, the woman can be seen manhandling one of the guards, dragging him by the collar of his uniform, hurling abuses and also asking the guards to “respect women”.

In his complaint, guard Anoop Kumar, who is seen in the video asking the woman to step back and not touch him, says that the incident took place at around 5.45 pm Saturday.

“Bhavya Roy came with her car and when I stood up to open the gates, she got out of the car and started hurling abuses at me. She hit me in front of everyone and humiliated me. She also threatened to kill me. She was drunk at the time of the incident. I and the other guards tried to stop her but she didn’t stop and continued to insult me. Another guard made a video of the incident which is now on Facebook, Twitter,” reads the complaint, accessed by ThePrint.

“We are investigating what led to the incident,” said DCP Chander.

A senior police officer told ThePrint that they “can’t confirm it now, but it appears that she was under the influence of alcohol”.

Speaking to ThePrint, Manish Gupta, an RWA member, said, “There are rules here. The entry and exit of every person is noted by the guards stationed here, which only takes a couple of seconds. It is protocol. The incident took place when the guard was late by a couple of seconds to open the gate due to procedure”.

According to Anshu Gupta, treasurer of the RWA, this has happened before. “She has abused security guards in the past as well in some accident-related matters. This incident took place on the roads which had nothing to do with the cluster of security guards. She has a behavioural issue,” said Anshu Gupta to ThePrint. “The guard is in a state of shock and is scared.”

It remains unclear why Roy spoke of “respecting women” or referred to “three girls”.

“We don’t have any clarity on it, but according to the initial information, she was telling the guards she is in a hurry over a case related to some girls,” said Manish Gupta.

This incident comes days after politician Shrikant Tyagi stirred major controversy in Noida when he allegedly abused a woman, his neighbour, in Noida’s Omaxe society. He was arrested on 9 August. Parts of his home, alleged illegal add-ons, were demolished while the politician was absconding.
