Bengaluru, Mar 26 (PTI) Karnataka Minister Eshwar B Khandre on Thursday clarified in the Assembly that there is no provision to offer government jobs to the legal heirs of persons killed in wildlife attacks, as per existing government orders.
Replying to a question by Sringeri MLA T D Rajegowda during Question Hour, the forest, ecology and environment minister said that families of victims of human–wildlife conflict are being provided financial compensation and monthly assistance.
“The earlier compensation of Rs 15 lakh has been increased to Rs 20 lakh from April 2025, and a monthly pension of Rs 4,000 is being given to a family member for five years,” he said.
Stating that forest personnel work under challenging conditions round the clock, the minister added, “In case of the death of on-duty staff, the ex gratia amount has been enhanced from Rs 30 lakh to Rs 50 lakh.” Khandre said that the government is taking all possible measures to mitigate human–wildlife conflict, including incidents involving elephants, and emphasised its continued efforts to safeguard both human lives and wildlife.
