Agartala, Apr 5 (PTI) Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar on Sunday said the Centre has not sent additional central forces to the state for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

The voting for the 28 seats of the tribal council will be held on April 12, and counting will be taken up on April 17.

“The state government had sent a request to the Centre for additional forces to conduct the elections of the tribal council, but so far no forces have arrived in the state,” he told the reporters at Dharmangar in North Tripura district.

The DGP held a meeting with the District Magistrates and SPs of North Tripura and Unakoti districts at Dharmanagar to review the security arrangements ahead of the by-elections to the Dharmanagar Assembly constituency (on April 9) and the voting for the tribal council.

The DGP said elaborate security arrangements have been made for both the by-election in Dhamanagar and the elections to the tribal council.

“We have put in place an elaborate security net for both elections. The arrangement will remain in place even after the completion of the counting process to ensure peace,” he said.

Earlier, a delegation of Left Front headed by its convener, Manik Dey, met State Election Commissioner (SEC), Manoj Kumar and sought his intervention for deployment of central paramilitary forces in all polling booths for free, fair and transparent voting for the tribal council. PTI PS RG
