New Delhi: The Hans Foundation, in collaboration with the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (NIEPID), has launched the Mobile Therapy Buses initiative to provide life-changing services to children with disabilities living in remote, marginalized communities, a PIB press release stated.

The initiative aims to address the unique needs of children with disabilities in rural areas by bringing them to their homes through the deployment of five mobile therapy buses. The buses are designed to provide intensive and life-changing services, including diagnostic, therapeutic, and skill development support to nearly 14,000 people with disabilities.

The mobile therapy buses are expected to reach children with disabilities and their families in Noida, Ghaziabad, Kolkata, and Mumbai. The initiative requires an initial investment of Rs 2 crore per bus for capital expenditure and infrastructure, along with an annual operating budget of Rs 1.2 crore to ensure ongoing maintenance, staffing, and operational efficiency. The project has already registered and screened 5,222 children with disabilities, providing them with comprehensive healthcare and counselling services.
