New Delhi: The National Health Authority (NHA) and IIT Kanpur signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 11 September to develop a digital public good for artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare. The partnership aims to create an open public benchmarking platform for comparing and validating AI models, a PIB press release stated.
The platform, built using the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), will contain a quality-preserving database, an open benchmarking platform, and a consent management system. It will be developed and operated by IIT Kanpur, and subsequently, it will be unlocked by NHA.
Union Health Secretary Apurva Chandra highlighted the importance of the MoU, stating, “Use of data for improving health outcomes is the envisaged goal of this partnership. It will use the data available under the ABDM to create a public benchmark for AI models for quantifying and diagnosing diseases against which other AI models can be benchmarked.”
The partnership will prove to be immensely beneficial in terms of data access, quality preservation, and trust building. It is expected to create a platform that will enable researchers and healthcare providers to access high-quality data and collaborate, while also safeguarding the interests of data owners. This will pave the way for the growth of trustworthy AI models that can revolutionize the healthcare sector.
