Ahmedabad, Jul 23 (PTI) The National Green Tribunal, which is monitoring the compliance of solid and liquid waste management rules, has granted four more weeks to the chief secretary of Gujarat to submit the state’s six-monthly progress report.
A bench of NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava in Delhi on Monday noted that Gujarat had not submitted the report after October 2024. Based on the express request made on behalf of the chief secretary, it allowed four more weeks to file the progress report, the NGT said in an order.
The NGT proceedings concern solid and liquid waste management by all the states and Union Territories in the country.
Last year, the tribunal had directed Gujarat to file progress reports detailing the steps taken to ensure compliance with the Supreme Court’s directions regarding solid waste management rules and establishing an adequate number of sewage treatment plants (STPs).
The NGT is hearing the case after the Supreme Court directed it to monitor the enforcement of solid and liquid waste management norms across the country.
The green court will now take up the matter on September 1 to consider Gujarat’s compliance report. PTI KA PD NR
