New Delhi, Mar 30 (PTI) Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu on Monday said in the Rajya Sabha a new terminal building at Udaipur international airport will be inaugurated this year and discussions are undergoing with airlines to start overseas flights from the city.

Replying to supplementary queries during Question Hour, the minister informed that the new terminal building at Udaipur, Rajasthan is under construction and the same would be completed soon.

He said the new terminal would be inaugurated this year only.

To start international services, Naidu said the discussions are on with airlines for this purpose.

The minister was replying to a question asked by BJP MP Chunnilal Garasiya who wanted to know when international services would start from Udaipur.

Naidu noted that the Indian aviation sector has witnessed strong growth during the last 11 years of the Modi-government.

He said the number of airports and aircraft have increased sharply leading to growth in the number of passengers as well.

Naidu said this growth in the aviation sector has resulted in the requirement of more workforces.

He said the government in the last 4-5 years have taken steps for capacity building to meet these requirements.

In a written reply, Naidu said, “Apprenticeship and skill development in airport ground handling and related operational areas are undertaken by Ground Handling Agencies (GHAs) as part of their operational requirements.” GHAs recruit personnel and impart necessary training, including structured classroom training, on-the-job training and periodic refresher programmes, he added.

Further, skilling initiatives encompass a wide range of areas such as passenger handling, baggage management, ramp operations, safety procedures, emergency response, customer service and operation of specialised equipment.

“These programmes are aligned with broader Government policies on skill development and are implemented from time to time in accordance with sectoral requirements,” the minister said.

Naidu said the training and capacity building activities are also undertaken in collaboration with airlines, training institutes and other service providers associated with airport operations.

Such apprenticeship and training activities are conducted across the country based on operational requirements, he added. PTI MJH MJH DR DR
