New Delhi, Mar 16 (PTI) The New Delhi Municipal Council on Monday launched a project to upgrade the electricity distribution network in southeast Delhi’s Lodhi Colony, an official statement said.

The foundation stone for the project was laid by Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Verma and New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj at Central Park Corner in the Lodhi Colony Main Market area, it read.

The civic body said the initiative aims to modernise the ageing electrical distribution system in Lodhi Colony Government Flats, where power demand has increased sharply over the decades.

“The electrical load sanctioned for these flats in the 1960s was around 1 KW per household. Over the years, the requirement has risen to nearly 5 to 10 KW per flat, which the existing infrastructure is unable to adequately support,” the statement said.

According to the council, a preliminary estimate of about Rs 9.45 crore has been approved for the project.

“It includes the installation of 40 Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)-compatible smart feeder pillars to enable improved monitoring and control of the electricity distribution network,” the statement read.

The project also involves laying around 7.5 km of LT 1.1 KV 400 sq mm cables, over 20 km of LT 1.1 KV 25 sq mm cables, and 0.5 km of 11 KV 400 sq mm cable connecting the 33 KV electric sub-station at Aliganj (Jor Bagh) to the 11 KV ESS at 5 Block Lodhi Colony, it added.

Officials said the upgrade is expected to improve voltage stability, reduce outages and enhance the overall efficiency of power supply in the area. PTI MSJ APL
