Dhemaji/ Jorhat, Apr 1 (PTI) Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday said the Northeast has entered a phase of peace, security and development under the BJP-led government, after years of violence and instability during the Congress rule.
Speaking at an election rally at Gogamukh in Dhemaji, which was also addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sonowal asserted that Assam was ready to deliver a historic mandate for the BJP-led NDA for a third term.
“A region once marked by violence, fear and instability under Congress rule is today firmly on the path of peace and rapid development. The Northeast that once struggled with unrest has achieved sustained peace through landmark agreements like the Bodo Peace Accord, with thousands of youth having returned to the mainstream,” he said.
Sonowal alleged that previous Congress regimes compromised the state’s identity and security.
“Today, under the BJP-led government, decisive steps have been taken to safeguard Satra lands and protect our cultural and civilisational heritage. Historic measures have been implemented to secure ‘jati, mati, bheti’ (community, land, home),” he said.
The former CM said the state’s cultural identity has also received global recognition under the current regime.
“Today, our women, youth, farmers and poor are empowered and living lives of dignity. This is the real change on the ground. In this new environment, Assam has witnessed unprecedented investment and industrial expansion,” he said.
Sonowal said the stability has led to investment and industrial expansion in Assam over the last 10 years.
Maintaining that connectivity has improved significantly with modern roads, rail links and expanded air infrastructure, he said the state has attracted investments worth over Rs 5 lakh crore, creating employment opportunities for youth.
“Only a BJP-led government can ensure peace, protect our identity and accelerate development. I urge the people to once again bless the NDA with a decisive mandate,” he said.
Later, Sonowal addressed another public meeting at Kenduguri in Jorhat in support of BJP candidate Hitendranath Goswami. PTI SSG SSG SOM
