Mumbai, Apr 8 (PTI) The Opposition Nationalist Congress Party (SP) on Wednesday said its workers in Maharashtra will take to the streets to highlight issues of public interest and seek their urgent resolution by the BJP-led government.
Maharashtra NCP (SP) president Shashikant Shinde said the Sharad Pawar-led party will take a firm stand on pro-people issues.
“We will take an aggressive stand by hitting the streets to ensure the issues of the people of Maharashtra are resolved by the ruling side,” he asserted.
Speaking to reporters here after a party meeting, Shinde maintained the Opposition outfit will launch an agitation to get citizens’ grievances addressed and added the workers continue to stand firmly behind the organisation.
He informed that the party has initiated efforts in recent days to strengthen its organisation and held district-level meetings across the state last week as part of this programme.
Meetings of various party cells are being conducted in the presence of NCP (SP) working president and Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule and capable workers are being identified and appointed to organisational posts, he said.
“Party workers continue to stand strongly behind the organisation. Due to continuous elections, important decisions regarding the party organisation had been pending,” Shinde said.
He sought to downplay NCP (SP) leader Samarjeet Ghatge joining the BJP, saying he was in the saffron party earlier.
“Samarjeet Ghatge was originally with the BJP and had come to us seeking a ticket for the 2024 assembly polls. After contesting the elections (and losing from Kagal in Kolhapur district), he has returned to the BJP,” Shinde stated. PTI MR RSY
