Mumbai, Apr 1 (PTI) City Mayor and BJP leader Ritu Tawde has raised eyebrows by claiming that her chronic throat ailment was cured with the blessings of a “gurudev” when medicines proved ineffective, which she termed as a “big miracle”.

Addressing a public event in Borivali on Tuesday, Tawde said the throat-related issue troubled her for nearly two years despite undergoing medical treatment.

“My voice was not like this. I told Param Gurudev ji that I was taking medicines, but nothing was helping. I am in shock,” she said while addressing the gathering.

Tawde, who was elected in February as the 78th mayor of Mumbai, becoming the second BJP corporator to occupy the prestigious post in 44 years, was referring to a Jain priest.

The mayor claimed that her condition improved significantly after receiving the blessings and described it as a big miracle.

“He blessed me, and today I can speak in front of you… This truly feels like a miracle because I was in great distress. But you can hear my voice now,” she added.

Taking a dig at Tawde, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut said many people also got cured from the ‘medicine’ given by self-styled ‘godman’ Ashok Kharat, and it is their prerogative.

Kharat has been arrested for allegedly raping several women under the pretext of helping them to resolve various issues.

At the same event, Maharashtra Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, who is also the guardian minister of Mumbai, claimed that Tawde first became a corporator after getting the blessings of the gurudev.

Lodha said BJP’s city chief Amit Satam told him that another miracle was Tawde’s elevation to the mayor’s post after meeting the gurudev and receiving the blessings of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Amit Shah. PTI KK PR NR NSK
