Palghar, Mar 13 (PTI) The administration in Maharashtra’s Palghar district on Friday conducted a high-intensity mock drill at the Tarapur MIDC in Boisar to test emergency response mechanisms in the event of a major industrial disaster, a senior official said.
The drill, carried out in coordination with Gujarat Gas Limited (GGL), simulated a crisis scenario involving a major fire triggered by a breach in an underground high-pressure steel gas pipeline during excavation work near Camblin Circle.
The exercise was designed to evaluate real-time coordination between various government departments and industrial stakeholders, said Vivekanand Kadam, the district disaster management officer.
“Upon activation of the emergency siren by GGL, the district administration promptly reached the site to supervise the overall response and ensure that every department acted in synchronisation,” Kadam said.
He said that the police department swiftly cordoned off the area and regulated traffic to keep the public at a safe distance, and the fire department mobilised tenders to extinguish the blaze immediately after the gas supply was isolated. PTI COR ARU
