Aizawl, Mar 18 (PTI) The Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) will go to polls on April 21, the Mizoram State Election Commission (SEC) announced on Wednesday.

State Election Commissioner H Lalthlangliana told reporters here that polling for the 19-member civic body will be held across 19 wards from 7 am to 5 pm.

Repolling, if necessary, will be held on April 23, and counting of votes will take place on April 27, he said.

The last date for filing nomination papers is March 25, while nominees can withdraw their candidatures latest by March 30, Lalthlangliana said.

Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on March 27.

The main opposition party, the Mizo National Front (MNF), has released its full list of candidates, while the Congress has announced 13 contenders for the 19 seats.

The ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) will name its candidates on March 23.

According to official data, there are over 2.39 lakh electors across 19 wards, including 1.26 lakh female voters.

In the last AMC polls held in February 2021, the MNF secured a majority with 11 seats, followed by the ZPM with six, and the Congress with two. PTI CORR RBT
