New Delhi: The Ministry of Panchayati Raj conducted Monday a special webinar focusing on the transformative role of digital solutions in enhancing citizen-centric service delivery in rural India. The webinar, titled “Citizen-Centric Services provided by Panchayati Raj Institutions,” was part of the National e-Governance Webinar Series (NeGW 2023–24) and jointly organized by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR) and the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), a PIB release stated.

The webinar saw active participation from Gram Panchayats and Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) representatives across the country, the release added. Discussions centered around the importance of digital integration in streamlining rural service delivery and creating an inclusive, accessible governance model for rural communities.

Vivek Bharadwaj, Secretary, MoPR, emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to empowering PRIs through unified, multi-portal solutions that simplify access to essential services for rural citizens. He highlighted the significance of integrating various service delivery portals to improve efficiency and responsiveness within a modern rural governance framework, and underscored this effort as critical to the Ministry’s vision for inclusive, sustainable rural development.

V. Srinivas, Secretary of DARPG, further spoke of the foundational role of citizen-centric governance in the Panchayati Raj system. He commended state-led initiatives like Karnataka’s Panchamitra, Gujarat’s eSeva, and Kerala’s ILGMS as exemplary models of effective digital governance. These models, he stated, demonstrate how PRIs can enhance transparency, accessibility, and direct service provision to citizens.

The webinar also featured insights from senior officials representing various states, including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Gujarat, Telangana, and Maharashtra. They shared practical insights on effective service delivery at the Gram Panchayat level, highlighting the potential for cross-learning and the adoption of best practices between urban and rural local body systems.
