New Delhi: The Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region (MDoNER) will host a trade and investment roadshow in Ahmedabad on 17 January to attract investment to India’s northeastern states. The event, at the Hyatt Regency hotel, is expected to draw significant interest from Gujarat’s business community, a PIB press release stated.
Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region and Education, Government of India, will attend the event. Other dignitaries include Shantanu, joint secretary of MDoNER, along with senior representatives from the northeastern states, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), the North Eastern Council (NEC), the North East Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation (NEHHDC), the North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation (NERAMAC), and the North Eastern Development Finance Corporation (NEDFi).
The roadshow aims to showcase the investment potential of the Northeast in sectors such as infrastructure, logistics, agriculture, information technology, energy, textiles, tourism, and health care. Representatives from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura will present investment opportunities and engage with potential investors. The roadshow will also feature business-to-government meetings, providing a platform for investors to engage directly with state representatives and explore sectoral opportunities.
This event is the seventh in a series of roadshows leading up to the North East Investors Summit, organized by MDoNER to stimulate economic growth in the region. The Ahmedabad roadshow is organized in partnership with the northeastern states, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), and Invest India.
Previous roadshows in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Bengaluru saw significant participation from investors, highlighting the growing interest in the Northeast as an investment destination. The recent Mumbai roadshow, held on 16 December last year was attended by prominent figures such as Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, union minister for MDoNER; Manik Saha, chief minister of Tripura; and Conrad K. Sangma, chief minister of Meghalaya. The event witnessed active participation from investors in business-to-government meetings, underscoring the region’s appeal.
