New Delhi, Mar 18 (PTI) With the onset of Chaitra Navratri, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has announced a special sanitation drive across major temples in the city, aiming to ease the rush of devotees while keeping the surroundings clean.

Chairperson of the Standing Committee, Satya Sharma, said the civic body will focus on regular cleaning, timely garbage collection and upkeep of temple premises, as well as nearby roads, lanes and public spaces during the nine-day festival.

According to an official statement, in directions issued to all Zonal Deputy Commissioners, chairperson emphasised that ‘dhalao ghars’ (garbage collection points) near temples should be cleaned during night hours to avoid inconvenience to visitors.

She also called for strengthened sanitation efforts during the night around temple areas.

“Special arrangements are being planned at temples that see heavy footfall, including the deployment of mobile toilets, installation of additional dustbins and proper systems for disposal of pooja materials,” Sharma said.

“Ensuring convenience for devotees and maintaining a clean environment during Navratri is our top priority,” Sharma said, adding that all departments have been asked to work in coordination.

She also appealed to residents to cooperate with civic authorities and dispose of religious offerings only at designated places, stressing that public participation remains key to keeping the city clean during the festival. PTI VBH NB
