Meerut (UP), Apr 3 (PTI) A 40-year-old man died of suffocation after a fire broke out in a house here apparently due to a gas cylinder leak, police said on Friday.

The incident occurred in Lodhi Wali Gali late Thursday night, they said.

Preliminary investigation suggests that there was leakage from a domestic LPG cylinder and the fire erupted when a matchstick was lit, police said.

Upon receiving information, teams from the fire department and police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

However, by then, the man identified as Yogesh had died due to suffocation and had also suffered partial burn injuries, officials said.

City Superintendent of Police Ayush Vikram Singh said that a case has been registered on the complaint of the deceased’s brother and the body has been sent for postmortem examination.

Further investigation is underway in coordination with the fire department to ascertain the exact cause of the incident. PTI COR KIS DV DV
