Thane, Jul 9 (PTI) A deputy executive engineer of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company has been arrested for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a person in Raigad district, the Anti-Corruption Bureau said on Wednesday.

A man approached the accused, posted at the power company’s Pen circle office, for expediting the issuance of a license required to relocate three high-voltage cables passing through a private land at Khalapur, Raigad. The work was assigned to a company registered in the name of the man’s wife, an ACB official said.

The man was authorised to handle the licensing on behalf of the company and had submitted a formal application to the 53-year-old power company official, who allegedly demanded Rs 5,000 from him to move the file, he said.

The aggrieved man approached the ACB with a complaint on Monday.

The anti-graft agency laid a trap and caught the power company engineer red-handed while accepting the bribe at his office on Tuesday, the official said.

A case was registered against the accused under relevent provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. PTI COR GK
