Mumbai: The Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested one person and booked three others for allegedly passing on “confidential and sensitive information” to certain Pakistan-based intelligence operatives, the agency said Wednesday.
In a press note, the agency said that its Mumbai unit had received a tip about an Indian national suspected of leaking information to some Pakistan-based intelligence operatives. The suspected person, who hasn’t been identified, was in contact with these operatives through social media in April and May 2023 and then again in October 2023, the ATS alleged.
The agency also said that the three others booked in the case were in touch with the suspect.
“It was revealed that the suspected person passed on confidential information about a subject classified by the Indian government through Facebook and WhatsApp chats in return for money,” the ATS said in the press note, adding that an investigation is underway.
