Mumbai: Maharashtra’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) Wednesday arrested a scientist employed at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on charges of allegedly providing crucial information to a “Pakistan Intelligence Operative” that could potentially endanger India’s national security.

According to a press note issued by the ATS Thursday, the accused has worked on several strategically significant DRDO projects, including missiles. He was allegedly in touch with a “Pakistan Intelligence Operative” through WhatsApp and video calls.

“The scientist, by misusing his position, despite knowing that the official secrets in his possession if obtained by the enemy country can pose a threat to the security of the country, provided the details to the enemy country,” the release said.

The ATS has filed a case under multiple sections of the Official Secrets Act, 1923.
