Kolkata, Apr 1 (PTI) The Left Front on Wednesday announced it reached a seat-sharing arrangement with the ISF and CPI(ML) Liberation to contest the West Bengal assembly elections.
As per the seat-sharing arrangement reached among these outfits, the ISF will contest 30 seats and CPI(ML) Liberation will field candidates in eight assembly constituencies, Left Front chairman Biman Bose said in a statement.
He said the Left Front will field candidates in 252 of the 294 seats in the state, with the CPI(M) contesting 195 seats, All India Forward Bloc 23, CPI and RSP 16 each, and RCPI and Marxist Forward Bloc one each.
The announcement follows extensive deliberations among the Left Front, ISF and CPI(ML) Liberation regarding seat sharing.
“In the present political situation, this election is both a challenge and promising,” Bose said.
Bose said the Left Front will support as associates one candidate of West Bengal Socialist Party and three contestants from other “democratic and social” organisations.
Assembly elections in the state will be held on April 23 and 29 and counting of votes is scheduled on May 4.
The Left Front had drawn a blank in the 2021 assembly polls in the state, while the Indian Secular Front (ISF) managed to win one seat. PTI AMR ACD
