Kottayam(Kerala), Apr 11 (PTI) The Kottayam District Collector on Saturday dismissed media reports that CAPF personnel pointed guns at election officials at the strong room located in the Baselius College here.

District Collector Chetan Kumar Meena, who is also the District Election Officer, in a statement, said that reports of gun-pointing by Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel were “baseless”.

The voting machines used in the Vaikom Assembly constituency, during the April 9 polls, are stored in the strong room at the college, the statement said.

In the statement, Meena explained that certain concerns had arisen regarding the custody of strong room keys and therefore, he personally visited the site along with general observers.

“The safety concerns related to safety measures of strong rooms were addressed in a transparent manner in the presence of the general observers, Returning Officer, representatives of political parties, and agents of candidates as per established norms of the Election Commission,” the statement said.

The Collector emphasised that no untoward incident occurred at any stage and there was absolutely no instance of security personnel pointing guns, as alleged in the media reports.

“The district administration urges media outlets and the public to refrain from spreading unverified information,” the statement said. PTI HMP ROH
