New Delhi, Apr 11 (PTI) Union Women and Child Development Minister Annpurna Devi on Saturday paid tributes to social reformer Mahatma Jyotirao Phule on his birth anniversary, describing his life as a unique example of dedication and social justice and transformation through education.

Devi said that on the 200th birth anniversary year, the nation reaffirms its resolve to build an egalitarian, educated and empowered India by imbibing his ideals.

Phule was born on April 11, 1827, in Maharashtra and died on November 28, 1890.

Devi also shared Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s article on Phule, saying, “Mahatma Jyotirao Phule’s life is a unique example of dedication, social justice and social transformation through education.” “On the occasion of his 200th birth anniversary year, we reaffirm our resolve to build an egalitarian, educated and empowered India by imbibing his ideals. Respectful homage,” she added.

Meanwhile, PM Narendra Modi said Phule’s life was dedicated to the ideals of equality, justice and education. He also said Phule was a pioneer in championing the rights of women and the marginalised.

“On the birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, paying tributes to a visionary social reformer who dedicated his life to the ideals of equality, justice and education. He was also a pioneer in championing the rights of women and the marginalised,” Modi said in a post on X.

“This year, we mark the start of his 200th birth anniversary celebrations.

May his thoughts continue to guide everyone in the pursuit of societal progress,” he said.
