Chatra, Apr 10 (PTI) The principal of a school in Jharkhand’s Chatra district was arrested for allegedly raping a 14-year-old student, police said on Friday.

The 50-year-old accused was apprehended on Thursday after the girl’s family lodged a complaint at the Hunterganj police station, they said.

“He has been sent to jail after an FIR was lodged. He was booked under sections of the POCSO Act, the SC/ST Act, and the BNS. The girl was a boarder in the school,” said Prabhat Kumar, the officer in-charge of Hunterganj police station.

The girl’s statement was recorded in the presence of Additional District Magistrate Arvind Kumar, a female member of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), among other officials, he said.

The matter came to light when the minor took leave due to ill health and returned home. When her family got her medically examined, she was found to be pregnant, the OC said.

“The girl has been sent to Sadar Hospital, Chatra, for further medical examination,” said Vedprakash, the Block Medical Officer of Hunterganj.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chatra, Keerthishree G, constituted a high-level committee to probe into the matter.

A DNA test will also be conducted as per court orders to verify the facts of the case, another official said. PTI CORR RPS RBT
