J’khand: Man injured in elephant attack at Koderma dies

Koderma, Apr 5 (PTI) A man, who was severely injured in a wild elephant attack in Jharkhand’s Koderma district, died on Sunday, officials said.

The deceased has been identified as Upendra Saw alias Chhotu Kumar (35), a resident of Markacho.

He was critically injured after being attacked by the elephant on Friday night, they said.

“The injured man was initially rushed to RIMS Ranchi. After treatment, he was brought back to Koderma on Saturday. On Sunday morning, his health condition suddenly deteriorated, and he was taken to Sadar Hospital, where he died,” said Vikash Kumar, officer in-charge of Koderma police station.

Domchanch Range Officer Ravindra Kumar said Rs 25,000 has been provided to the victim’s family as immediate relief, while the rest of the compensation amount will be given after completion of formalities.

The Jharkhand government provides Rs 4 lakh as compensation in case of death caused by an elephant.
